EURO ICE HOCKEY CHALLENGE: GREAT BRITAN 4-1 POLAND

Great Britain beat Poland 4-1 at the Skydome Arena in Coventry in their second game of the Euro Ice Hockey Challenge.

It’s now two wins from two for GB after Friday night’s 3-0 victory over Japan in Milton Keynes.

Duggan on target as GB equalise late in first period
Both sides had early chances with Robert Lachowicz hitting the pipes inside the first two minutes for GB, while Ollie Betteridge went close short-handed.

Jackson Whistle denied Alan Lyszcaeczyk on an early Poland powerplay and then stopped the same player on a breakaway, before Maciej Urbanwicz hit the left-hand post.

Poland went ahead as Dominik Pas got the tip to Maciej Kruczek’s shot from right point (11:50) and GB hit back when Robert Lachowicz cycled out from behind the net to feed Sam Duggan at the backdoor (19:12).

Critchlow and Davey Phillips give GB the lead 
Cam Critchlow tipped-in Johnny Curran’s pass from right-wing to put GB ahead in the second period.

Davey Phillips scored his second goal of the weekend as he jumped onto a pass from Ross Venus from behind the net (31:55).

Poland pushed to close the gap with Whistle making good saves from Pas and Lyszcaeczyk.

Perlini puts seal on GB victory
Whistle made a superb close-range save from Krystian Dziubinksi and moments later, GB broke down the ice and Curran fed Brett Perlini at the backdoor on a two-on-one break (43:23).

Ben Davies was denied on a breakaway and then saw his shot from the slot saved by Marciej Miraka.

GB complete their Euro Ice Hockey Challenge campaign tomorrow against Romania at the Motorpoint Arena in Nottingham (4pm face-off).
