Burgess ruptured his appendix last week and has undergone surgery.

GB will take part in the tournament in Latvia a second successive year which runs from 21st to 23rd April.

Sixteen junior teams from across Europe will take part in the three-day event.

Head Coach, Jamie Elson, said: “Jayson is naturally devastated but wishes the team well.

“We feel for him having to step out of the team at this time so close to the tournament, but unfortunately these things happen. He has to rest up and get healthy again right now and we wish him all the best.

“It means that an opportunity arises for another player though and we have made the decision to call Philip Maguire in from the forward reserve list.

“The competition for places, in particular amongst the forwards, in this year group was high and that means we have some very good players available still who can come in.

“Philip is a hard-working forward with a really good skill set who has experience of this Riga tournament previously and will be a great addition.

“We look forward to getting Philip and the rest of the group together and getting on the plane to Riga.”

Reserves – Netminder: Harry Thomas (Michalovce, Slovakia). Defence: James Mather (Nottingham), Finley Williams Sheffield. Forwards: Lucas Campion (Billingham), Aiden Dancer (Sheffield).
