Captain Jonathan Phillips says team culture is huge for Great Britain as they begin their Euro Ice Hockey Challenge campaign this evening.

GB face Japan in Milton Keynes (7pm), before playing Poland in Coventry tomorrow (7pm) and rounding-off the four-team tournament against Romania at the Motorpoint Arena in Nottingham on Sunday (4pm).

The UK will host the Division I Group A World Championship tournament in Nottingham in April as GB look for an immediate return to the elite level of world ice hockey.

“The culture of this team from the top down has been an unbelievable thing to be a part of,” Phillips said.

“Guys coming in know they have to fit in but they always have done and they love being part of it.

“First and foremost it’s such an honour to play for your country and I think everyone realises that position.”
