Designed to pay homage to the sweaters worn by the Great Britain team that won gold at the Winter Olympics in 1936, the GB Legacy jerseys will be worn during the upcoming international challenge matches against Latvia and Hungary.
Manufactured by Jersey53, the jerseys come with stitched elements including the logo, name and number, as well as a special mention to Head Coach Pete Russell’s “Dare to Dream” quote inside the collar.
On the back of the jersey, fans will notice the breast cancer ribbon – a symbol of SMP Europe’s continued commitment to raise vital funds for Breast Cancer charities through their partnership with the Great Britain teams.
SMP Europe Managing Director, Ross Toomey, said: “We are really excited to unveil these special GB Legacy jerseys.
“A lot of hard work has gone into perfecting a design that will highlight a golden generation of British ice hockey and link that to the recent successes of the current group.
“We would like to thank Ice Hockey UK and the Great Britain fans for their continued support of our campaign to raise money for Breast Cancer charities – and the opportunity to collaborate with Ice Hockey UK on a match jersey for the first time.
“Special thanks to Ali Cree and Jersey53 for their hard work and support in making this concept a reality. We believe that the finished product is fresh and exciting and look forward to seeing the players take to the ice in them against Latvia today.”
Ice Hockey UK General Secretary, Andy French, said: “We are very excited to see the GB Legacy jerseys over the next four games.
“Ross, Martin and Will and their team at SMP Europe have put a lot of hard work into this and the results are stunning.
“I’d like to thank them all for their continued support of the GB Programme in so many different areas.”
Legacy jerseys will only be available to fans through two avenues – by purchasing a game-worn version following the completion of the warm-up matches or by winning Shirt Off His Back at one of the four games.
All profits from game-worn sales will be donated to Breast Cancer charities.
Only 140 jerseys have been manufactured and will be available for purchase on a first come first served basis in person at the official GB merchandise shop at the IIHF Ice Hockey Division I Group A Championship in Nottingham from the 29th April.
Please note: Some shirts may be game-issued rather than game-worn.
