Ruby Newlands scored a dramatic equaliser with five seconds to go to secure GB a point, before Latvia won the game in the shootout.

After a scoreless first two periods, the game burst into life early in the third session.

Hanna Strause put Latvia ahead (41:11) before Katy Dadd fired-in GB’s equaliser (47:02).

Kayla Poole made a great save to deny Linda Rulle while at the other end, Ruby Newlands went close on a breakaway.

Poole then made an outstanding save to deny Strause from close range.

Latvia scored on very late third-period powerplay as Poole saved from Milana Laletina, but could do nothing about the shot through traffic by Kjara Paula Zelubovska moments later (58:39).

Just as the game looked out of reach, Newlands broke into the offensive zone and fired across Jelizaveta Stadnika for a dramatic equaliser (59:55).

Ellin Rees went close twice in overtime and Rulle shot just wide for Latvia.

Rulle scored the only goal of the shootout as Latvia took the extra point.

There are no games in the tournament tomorrow, but GB return to action on Tuesday against Turkey.
