U18 WOMEN’S WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP: NETHERLANDS 3-1 GREAT BRITAIN

Great Britain were beaten 3-1 by the Netherlands in their opening game at the Under-18 Women’s World Championship Division II Group A at the Dumfries Ice Bowl.

GB went ahead late in the first period thanks to Jessica Jones’ shot from the edge of the crease (17:02).

Britain killed-off three successive penalties in period two, including 90 seconds of five-on-three and led by one at the second intermission.

Emily Olsthoorn scored a short-handed breakaway for the Netherlands to equalise (49:08) and then went ahead late in the game on a powerplay as Roos Karst’s shot crept in at the far corner (58:58).

GB lifted netminder Evelyn Brown for the extra skater and Nina Visser wrapped the game up into the empty net (59:49).

Britain are straight back into action tomorrow as they face Latvia (8pm face-off)
